Do I need to season my cookware before I start using them?
You do not need to season nonstick, stainless steel, or ceramic cookware before you start using them. Preheating these products and allowing oil or butter to come to temperature before adding your food will help prevent sticking and ensure even cooking. That said, you should always clean new cookwware with warm soapy water to remove any packaging dust before first use.
It is always a good idea to season any new cast iron cookware before first use. Here is what we recommend:
* Clean the pan gently with warm soapy water to remove any packaging dust, rinse, and then dry with a lint-free cloth.
* Apply a thin layer of vegetable oil, canola oil, or shortening to the inside and outside of the pan using a paper towel, cloth, or silicone brush. Make sure to coat the entire surface of the pan, including the handle.
* Place the pan upside down in a cold oven and then bake at 450–500°F for one hour
* Carefully remove pan from the oven and allow it to cool completely before use.
