When cared for properly, nonstick cookware can stand up to years of regular use. Here's how to extend the life of your favorite pots and pans.
*Only cook using low and medium temperatures. Overly high temperatures can cause food to burn and damage the nonstick coating of cookware. Most nonstick cookware is oven-safe up to 400 degrees F, but always be sure to check the Use and Care instructions of your specific product before putting cookware in the oven.
*Hand wash using warm soapy water and gentle scrub brushes to protect the nonstick surface of your cookware. Never use scouring pads or steel wool to clean nonstick cookware, which can scratch the surface and cause the nonstick coating to deteriorate.
*Avoid putting nonstick cookware in the dishwasher. Similarly, the high heat and harsher chemicals used in dishwashers can cause the nonstick coating of your cookware to breakdown more quickly over time.
*Use rubber, wood, or silicone cooking utensils. These utensils are gentle on the surface of your pan, whereas metal utensils can cause scratches and damage nonstick coatings.
*Avoid nonstick cooking sprays. These sprays contain additives that burn at lower temperatures than traditional cooking oils, which can create buildup that will damage the surface of your nonstick pan over time.
